Our Plastic Policy | Rush UK

Rush is committed to doing as much as we can to reduce plastic pollution and effects on the environment.

We are committed to doing as much as we can to reduce plastic pollution and effects on the environment. Please take a moment to read our commitments to reducing waste and harm on the environment.

  • Our cafe coffee cups and lids are compostable/bio degradable

  • Due to customer contamination of our recycling bins in the past, we now pay a company to sort all of our rubbish upon collection. This is a premium we pay for as a company to ensure all rubbish that can be recycled is.

  • We are switching to paper straws once our supply of plastic has been used up.
  • We work closely with our suppliers, including Slush Puppie to identify more environmentally friendly alternatives. Unfortunately we are bound by our partnership with Slush Puppie to use their branded cups. The good news is they are in the process of developing a cardboard straw with a spoon on the end.

  • We regularly share feedback to our main food and beverage supplier Brakes about wishing to use more environmentally friendly packaging options. Unfortunately we are bound by their limitations in terms of using styrofoam or plastic, for us to unwrap the products on-site and re-wrap them would cause additional waste and affect our health and safety policies. Large suppliers have been slow on the uptake of becoming more innovative with their product packaging, as we rely on their range of products to stock our cafe.

  • We recycle our foam cubes via donation to local clubs and sports teams.

As a company we are being as pro-active as possible, keen to limit the use of single use plastic and non-recyclable materials where possible. We welcome any suggestions from customers on what more we can do as a company.
