What is it?
A coronavirus is a type of virus. As a group, coronaviruses are common across the world. COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China in January 2020. The incubation period of COVID-19 is between 2 to 14 days. This means that if a person remains well 14 days after contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus, they have not been infected.

Symptoms of the Virus: The following symptoms may develop in the 14 days after exposure to someone who has COVID-19 infection:

· cough

· difficulty in breathing

· fever

· infection can be spread to people who are nearby (within 2 metres) or possibly could be inhaled into the lungs.

· it is also possible that someone may become infected by touching a surface, object or the hand of an infected person that has been contaminated with respiratory secretions and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes (such as touching door knob or shaking hands then touching own face)

Generally, these infections can cause more severe symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, older people, and those with long-term conditions like diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease.

How is it spread
From what we know about other coronaviruses, spread of COVID-19 is most likely to happen when there is close contact (within 2 metres or less) with an infected person. It is likely that the risk increases the longer someone has close contact with an infected person. Respiratory secretions produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes containing the virus are most likely to be the main means of transmission.

There are 2 main routes by which people can spread COVID-19:

Our current understanding is that the virus doesn’t live on surfaces for longer than 72 hours. There is currently little evidence that people who are without symptoms are infectious to others.

Risk level

Based on the World Health Organization’s declaration that this is a public health emergency of international concern, the UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the UK from low to moderate. With this in mind we are asking our customers to consider others if they are considering visiting Rush by practicing a few simple measures, as recommended by the World Health Organisation. Practice good hand washing, maintain a distance of at least 1m distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing, try to avoid touching your face and practice respiratory hygiene and cover your mouth or nose with a bent elbow or tissue and dispose of any used tissues immediately.

What action is Rush taking?
We have been closely monitoring the evolving situation in regards to the government’s advice on COVID-19. Rush takes the health and safety of our customers and the hygiene and cleanliness of our parks extremely seriously and we are following official advice on a daily basis.

We have already taken a number of significant steps to minimise any risk to our customers and we have been keeping our parks clean and safe over the last few weeks. While schools remain open, Rush will remain open as an environment for children to get active however we are anticipating that we may be closed in the near future.

From 18th March, we will be running at reduced capacity so we are able to manage and monitor that all customers can practice safe social distancing. The current WHO advice is to stay 1m away from people and our court monitors are managing and enforcing this.

From 18th March our opening hours will also change and we will only be open from 10am to 6pm in our High Wycombe park and 12pm – 8pm in our Birmingham park, 7 days a week (if you have a Birthday party scheduled outside these times, they will continue as normal).

· We have undertaken staff training to ensure our staff are up to speed with the current Public Health England guidelines regarding the Conoravirus and minimising risk.

· We have replaced our cleaning products with Coronavirus approved products (Chlor Tabs and Safezone Plus).

· Handsan alcohol Hand Rub stations have been setup around our parks and provided at hand wash sinks.

· We have put up a number of Good handwash practices posters within our washrooms and staff areas and staff will be monitoring hand washing as much as possible.

· We have carried out additional staff training around good hygiene practices.

· We are continuing to monitor the situation extremely closely and will be providing advice to our customers both on our website and in the park where required.
